The main admitting/registration desk for inpatient and outpatient care is on the first floor in the hallway that connects Main Hospital West and Main Hospital East.

Parking

Parking options for patients and visitors are available in these locations:

  • The Purple Parking Ramp is located on Chicago Avenue on the south side of our campus. Entrances are on Chicago Avenue and 28th Street. The ramp is connected to the main hospital buildings with a skyway. Electric cart transports in the skyway are available 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

  • Our Blue/26th Street Parking Ramp is located next to the Mother Baby Center and the 910 Medical Place.

  • Valet parking is available at three convenient locations across the Abbott Northwestern campus:
    • Main Hospital West Building: Enter from the left lane of 28th Street. Follow signs.
    • Courage Kenny Building: Enter from the left lane of 28th Street. Follow signs.
    • Piper Building parking lot for patients of surgery and other departments (26th Street and 10th Avenue.

Abbott Northwestern Hospital security personnel are on duty 24/7 to assist you and ensure your safety while on campus. Here are some tips for parking safely anywhere:

  • Park in well-lighted ramps and lots.
  • Be alert to your surroundings – look around before getting out of your vehicle.
  • Know exactly where you parked and your safest exit route.
  • Always lock your car doors.
  • Always keep your door and ignition keys handy.
  • Leave only the ignition key with a lot attendant.
  • Return to your car using the buddy system, with a group or with a personal escort (612-863-5416).
  • Look inside before entering your vehicle.
  • If someone tries to enter your vehicle, honk your horn repeatedly and try to drive away.
On-street parking spaces are limited in the vicinity of Abbott Northwestern Hospital and enforcement is strict. If you choose to park on a nearby street, be sure to check all posted signs and meters for instructions and restrictions.

Parking for Emergency Department patients is available in the surface lot on the east side of the Piper Building (10th Avenue and 26th Street). 

Parking areas for patients with a state-issued disability parking permit displayed in their vehicle:

  • Purple Parking Ramp, see blue lights on the ceiling indicating accessible spaces
  • Designated parking for Courage Kenny patients are located on level two of the Purple Ramp

Vehicles may drive up to the Main Hospital West entrance and the Courage Kenny Building entrance to drop of patients or pick them up.

Parking and access for those visiting or arriving after 8 p.m. is available in the surface lot on the east side of the Piper Building (10th Avenue and 26th Street).

  • Our Purple Parking Ramp is located south of the main hospital buildings. Entrances are on Chicago Avenue and 28th Street.
  • Our Blue/26th Street parking ramp is located next to the Mother Baby Center and the 910 Medical Place.
  • Valet parking, your easiest and most convenient option, is available at three locations across the Abbott Northwestern Campus. Cost for valet is the ramp rate plus a $3 fee.
    • Main Hospital West entrance
    • Courage Kenny Building
    • Piper Building (for surgery patients and other appointments on the north end of campus)

Transportation

Abbott Northwestern Hospital's transportation program provides van service to the hospital and affiliated metropolitan area physicians' offices for patients coming from Greater Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Riders will be billed for the ride and can select from a number of payment options, including cash, check, Visa or MasterCard.

Patients qualifying for this service include those who:

  • have been referred to the hospital or its affiliated physicians
  • schedule van transportation with minimally 24 hours' notice 
  • can meet the van at designated sites within a 30 to 175-mile radius of the hospital 
  • are able to get into and out of a van with minimal assistance and travel independently up to four hours

The Van Service coordinator will confirm the time and place of pickup when the reservation is verified. Patients should be available 15 minutes prior to their scheduled pickup time. Due to time restrictions, the van can only wait five minutes after the scheduled pickup time.

Van rides are also available for free to those who meet certain income guidelines. One additional adult rider may accompany each patient at no extra cost. To obtain an "Application for Financial Assistance" form, call the Van Service coordinator at 1-800-258-1210.
