New Ulm Medical Center welcomes three new physicians

All three doctors will begin seeing patients in September

NEW ULM, Minn. (Aug. 28, 2024) — Allina Health New Ulm Medical Center (NUMC) is proud to welcome three physicians to its care team in September. With expertise in family practice medicine, podiatry and orthopedics, these doctors will strengthen NUMC’s ability to continue providing exceptional care in Brown County and surrounding areas.

Dedicated to preventing chronic diseases, Tawanna King, MD will join NUMC as a family practice physician, treating adults and children. Her life-long love of science drives her mission to help families stay healthy.

“I enjoy science and understanding how the body and health conditions work,” said Dr. King. “I knew I wanted to be in health care. I even got involved in a certified nursing assistant (CNA) program during my freshman year of high school.”

Ben Tonsager, DPM is a native of St. James, Minn. who will join NUMC’s podiatry team as a foot and ankle surgeon. The husband and father of three boys said he was drawn to NUMC because he wanted, “to be part of a medical group that put the well-being of its patients above anything else.”

Phong Truong, DO is an orthopedic surgeon and hails from St. Cloud, Minn. He lists pediatric orthopedic surgery as one of his specialties. He helps treat everything from fractures to meniscus tears, while also treating patients in need of total knee or hip replacements.

“The human body is a functional machine, and my goal is to keep yours as functional as possible for as long as possible,” Dr. Truong said.

All three physicians will begin seeing patients at NUMC in September. Drs. Tonsager and Truong will also see patients at the Allina Health Springfield Clinic. Call (507) 217-5011 to schedule an appointment in New Ulm, or (507) 723-6201 for Springfield.
