St. Francis Regional Medical Center campus moves to 100% clean energy from Shakopee Public Utilities
St. Francis Regional Medical Center (St. Francis), a leading health care provider in the south metro area, announced today that it has joined the Clean Energy Choice for Businesses program offered by Shakopee Public Utilities (SPU). The program allows St. Francis to source 100% of its electricity from renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar.
“Our goal is to reduce emissions by optimizing and upgrading heating and electrical systems and installing and purchasing renewable energy,” said Amy Jerdee, president of St. Francis. “Our new agreement with Shakopee Public Utilities means 100% of the electricity used at St. Francis will come from renewable energy sources.”
By participating in the Business Clean Energy Choice program, the result is 100% clean energy for electric consumption, which supports both renewable energy and the environment in an easy, cost-affordable manner. This is accomplished through Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) that are tracked by Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (MMPA), SPU’s power provider.
MMPA’s portfolio currently meets Minnesota’s Renewable Energy Standards, providing the first 20% of customer energy consumption from renewable energy. This includes solar, wind, bio energy and hydropower production. Customers can obtain 100% renewable energy status through Business Clean Energy Choice for only $0.002 per kWh for the remaining 80% of electric usage.
