Understanding heart disease and why it’s the leading cause of death in the U.S.

[WCCO Radio, June 16, 2024] Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, but a poll conducted in January of 2024 shows 51% of people living in the United States don’t know it. Heart disease, also known as cardiovascular disease, consists of conditions that affect the heart or the blood vessels. Coronary artery disease (blocked or narrow arteries) is one of the most common forms of heart disease.

Steven Bradley, MD, MPH, a cardiologist with Allina Health Minneapolis Heart Institute, joined Susie Jones on WCCO Radio to help listeners get a better understanding of what heart disease is, how to prevent it and how to treat it.
