EMS teams begin Collaboration with Cake

[WCCO-TV News, July 09, 2024] Kerry Callahan, a supervisor with Allina Health Emergency Medical Services (EMS), spoke to WCCO-TV about an event that she hopes will impact the culture of EMS leadership across Minnesota.

Allina Health EMS and Hennepin EMS joined forces to create the first Collaboration with Cake, an event geared toward building connection amongst EMS departments across the state. The teams got a chance to have cake while interacting with each other in a low-pressure environment.

The idea for increasing connection came after the killing of three first responders in Burnsville, MN in February 2024. EMS teams from across the state came in to make sure the impacted community had EMS coverage in the aftermath of the tragedy.

“Because of the nature of our work, there will most assuredly be tough times to come, but when we have solid connections with our EMS partners across the state, it makes dealing with those situations just a little bit easier,” said Callahan.

Callahan is hoping Collaboration with Cake becomes a regular event and a good thing that comes out of that heartbreaking tragedy in Burnsville. Watch the video below.
