Allina Health connection to the Paris Olympics

[WCCO Radio, August 02, 2024] WCCO Radio interviewed an Allina Health employee after learning she is the mother of an Olympian. Mary Thompson-Mielke has worked at Allina Health for more than three decades. During that time, she also raised two children. One of them is Jordan Thompson who won a gold medal during the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021 and is now competing for another medal in Paris.

Jordan was born at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. She began playing volleyball in the 8th grade and went on to play for Edina High school and Northern Lights Volleyball in Burnsville. Volleyball earned Jordan a college scholarship and is now her profession. When she is not training with the national team, Jordan plays for professional leagues internationally.

Thompson-Mielke couldn’t be more proud. “It’s all her. We supported her growing up, but she is the one who put in all of the hard work, all of the long hours and loving the sport. It’s been an exciting ride for us.”

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Thomas-Mielke couldn’t watch her daughter compete in Tokyo so she and her husband are thrilled to be in Paris for the 2024 Olympic games.

Update: Jordan and Team USA won a silver in Paris, making Jordan a two-time Olympic medalist.
