Free exercise classes for people with Parkinson’s disease

[WCCO-TV News, September 16, 2024] Thanks to funding from the Parkinson’s Foundation, Allina Health Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute is offering free exercise classes for people living with Parkinson’s disease. To participate, all you have to do is register at allinahealth.org/ckactive or call 612-775-2400. Classes are offered at Courage Kenny in Golden Valley, as well as United Hospital, Mercy Hospital and Mercy Hospital - Unity Campus.

Parkinson’s disease is a neuro-degenerative disorder that, over time, causes people to have unintended movements, difficulty balancing and more. Research shows exercise helps people living with the disorder maintain mobility for longer periods of time. The free classes offered at Courage Kenny are tailored to help with flexibility and general mobility.

Jennfer Steele, DPT, a physical therapist, participated in an interview with WCCO-TV to help people understand the prevalence of Parkinson’s disease (there are 90,000 new cases across the country a year) and the importance of exercise for quality of life. Watch the interview below.
