From paralysis to walking: Allina Health patient shares her journey

[WCCO-TV News, December 15, 2024] Allina Health Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute patient Jen Kelly is on the road to recovery. In September 2020, she fell from her horse, crushed her spinal cord and broke three vertebrae in her neck; she was paralyzed from the back down. Jen says when it comes down to it, “There’s really two paths you can take. You can stay in the discouraged depressed place, and that really is about self-pity, or you can look outward and that’s about gratitude.”

With the help of Amanda DeRasmi, DO, who specializes in spinal cord injury medicine, Jen is walking again. She shared her journey with WCCO-TV.
