Building on the more than 125-year tradition of caring for women and families, Abbott Northwestern's WomenCare® program offers care for a woman's lifelong health care needs.
Abbott Northwestern has been serving the needs of women for more than 125 years, since the Northwestern Hospital for Women and Children opened in 1882 and Abbott Hospital for Women opened in 1902. Both hospitals were designed to provide care and support for women's specific health care needs.
Today, WomenCare® recognizes the unique needs of women, and provides a full range of programs and services to support and treat them. Abbott Northwestern Hospital is consistently voted as a Women-Friendly hospital in Minnesota Women's Press' annual rankings.
Additionally, Minnesota Women's Press has recognized two of Abbott Northwestern's Centers of Excellence in its "What Women Want! 2009" issue—The Penny George™ Institute for Health and Healing was chosen as a favorite clinic among female readers for alternative medicine and The Allina Health Cancer Institute's Piper Breast Center was voted as a women-friendly hospital or clinic, and favorite place to get a mammogram and breast cancer information or treatment.
