Overview

Why we’re here

As the focus of health care shifts from treating episodes of illness to helping populations stay healthy, Abbott Northwestern – WestHealth is here to provide non-hospital medical care close to home. Community members have access to the same quality care from Abbott Northwestern Hospital, but with the added convenience of location, nearby freeway access, ample parking and a location that’s easy to navigate.

WestHealth is the medical destination of the west metro for preventative care, as well as for serious conditions. As the WestHealth campus continues to expand and add new outpatient and support services, Allina Health takes another step toward achieving the Triple Aim of lower costs, higher quality of care and improved patient experience.

Abbott Northwestern – WestHealth has been a part of the Plymouth community since 1992 and is proud to offer superior healthcare and provide support to the community through programming, partnerships and sponsorships.

1900s

1992 – Abbott Northwestern Hospital and North Memorial formed a 50/50 partnership to develop WestHealth in Plymouth.

1994 – WestHealth, a 120,000 square-foot building, opened its doors in September 1994. The first two floors were dedicated to ambulatory health care: a same-day surgery center, urgent care, laboratory and imaging services. The top four floors were used as medical office space for primary and specialty care physicians and outpatient clinics.

1998 – As patient volumes grew and demand for outpatient services increased, a four-story, 78,000 square-foot addition was built to accommodate additional clinics, a pharmacy and a breast center.

2000s

2011 – Allina Health became the sole owner of WestHealth and rebranded the building as Abbott Northwestern – WestHealth to acknowledge that patients from Plymouth will receive the same quality care from Abbott Northwestern Hospital, close to home.

2013 – WestHealth built a new 18,000 square-foot building to house a full-service Emergency Department that was integrated into the existing Urgent Care to provide 24/7 service. Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota is also on site to provide care to pediatric patients in the combined Emergency Department and Urgent Care.

2014 – In partnership with Presbyterian Homes & Services, construction began on Interlude, a transitional care center that will open in early 2015. Interlude will provide care for patients who need additional medical supervision before going home, but do not need the inpatient services of a hospital. The new facility will have 50 private suits for short-term care and six comfort suites for patients who are otherwise health but are recovering from outpatient surgery.

Today – WestHealth is home to more than 50 family and specialty care clinics that bring the same quality healthcare from Abbott Northwestern Hospital to the west metro in one easy-to-access location. Some of these specialty services and programs include, breast center, cardiovascular services, holistic health, imaging, laboratory, orthopedic services, pharmacy, physical therapy, primary care, same-day surgery, spine care, emergency and urgent care.
