While in the hospital, you will be cared for by a doctor known as a hospitalist. Hospitalists are family medicine or internal medicine doctors who specialize in diagnosing, treating and coordinating the care of patients while in the hospital. Hospitalists work in partnership with your referring doctor. When you are discharged from the hospital, the hospitalist will make sure your primary care physician is aware of further treatment plans, follow-up care and medications you may require.

A lot of people are involved in delivering comprehensive care to patients. Your care team may consist of doctors, registered nurses, nursing assistants, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, dietitians, social workers, radiology and laboratory staff, and rehabilitation staff as needed.

Specialty Care Unit

For patients who are critically ill or for those with cardiac conditions, Cambridge Medical Center has a dedicated Specialty Care Unit. These special patient rooms are equipped with advanced monitoring equipment. The Specialty Care Unit is staffed with highly trained and certified registered nurses.

The Specialty Care Unit serves adult patient populations needing medical / surgical and cardiac care. Remote cardiac telemetry monitoring services are provided for acute care patients.

Pediatric patients are admitted for observation and monitoring only.
