Gynecology

Unity Hospital provides comprehensive gynecologic services from physicians and staff who are committed to serving women's special health care needs. Many procedures that previously required inpatient care are now offered in an outpatient setting. These may include microsurgery, laser surgery, laparoscopy, pelviscopy and laparoscopic-assisted hysterectomy. If you need to stay overnight, nurses with expertise in the special health needs of women will provide your care in a unit especially designed to meet your needs.

Prepare Yourself for Surgery

If your physician has scheduled you for a hysterectomy and/or bladder repair, you will want to prepare yourself as much as possible. This is why our doctors strongly recommend that you take the opportunity to attend a pre-operative information class held by Karen Van Hatten, R.N. and Gyn Educator, at Unity Hospital.

This is a valuable time to get together and learn about the days before surgery through your recovery period. The class is very informal and you are encouraged to bring a family member or friend with you. We will cover the following topics:

  • Terminology, anatomy
  • Getting ready for surgery
  • Packing your suitcase
  • A walk-through of the day of surgery
  • Second post-op day through discharge
  • Going home
  • Bladder repairs
  • Questions and answers

Your clinic has a schedule of classes. To register, call Karen's voice mail number, 763-236-3429, and leave your name, phone number, physician's name, surgery date and the date you would like to attend. Please also feel free to leave a message with any other questions you may have. The class is held in Cafeteria Conference Room 2 at Unity. Come in the visitor's entrance and follow the signs from the Information Desk.
