Purpose statement
PGY2 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives for advanced practice areas. Residents who successfully complete PGY2 residency programs are prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, and board certification in the advanced practice area, if available.
Program description
From the experiences and opportunities provided during our PGY2 cardiology residency, residency graduates will develop expert knowledge and skills necessary to practice independently as a cardiology specialist and become a leader in the field. The residents will apply evidenced-based medication-related information to clinical practice through clinical recommendations and be equipped to participate as an integral member of an interdisciplinary team caring for patients with cardiovascular diseases. In addition, they will develop the skills to serve as a pharmacy leader in cardiology with knowledge and application of formulary management, policy and protocol development, and education of learners and staff. Throughout the program, the resident will demonstrate professionalism and professional growth in organizational involvement, communication, education, and practice leadership.
